Founded in 1924, Burlington Country Club is the oldest golf course in Chittenden County. In the early 1920’s a group of members of the Waubanakee Golf Club formed the Burlington Country Club and purchased 150 acres from the Fairholt Estate for the course location. They hired the most famous golf course architect of the day, Donald J. Ross, whose previous commissions included Pinehurst and Southern Pines to design the course. His original layout, with the prospectus and bond offering, hangs in the clubhouse. The golf course underwent an extensive restoration under the careful guidance of the renowned golf architectural firm of Hurdzan – Fry in 1998, who managed the restoration to maintain and preserve the character of the original Donald Ross design. The original clubhouse has gone through several modifications and expansions, most recently in 2010 the renovation of the Grill Room, the addition of a Member Dining Room, the addition of a new outdoor patio, and the remodeling of the locker rooms. In 2014 the club celebrated its 90th season of offering the highest level of golfing experience in northern New England.
